The life of The Girl Shelby

Would someone please explain to me how despite going swimming on 5 days in the last week I didn't lose any weight? As of tonight I'm back in the gym. All of the machines have got displays showing how many calories you've used up.

No decision was made on the project - just another deferral so that means more work for me.

I hope you haven't hurt yourself falling to the floor as you realise that I've posted a new entry less than 5 days after the last one. I have have had a manic morning and I'm currently passing through the eye of the tornado and everything is very quiet. The top secret project decision is being made on the floor above me right now. It was a close run thing getting everything ready in time and now I feel slightly uneasy in case I forgot to include something in the financial analysis. I expect all hell will break loose again at 2pm when the meeting ends and I have to deal with the outcomes so don't expect this to be a reqular thing.

Recently I have been getting my money's worth from the gym. I went swimming every day from Thursday to Sunday (I gave myself an evening off yesterday, but I'll be back in there again tonight) I cannot emmulate friend Pimp Daddy Rothschild's feat of swimming a mile just yet, but I have been doing 30 lengths and I think the pool is 25m so that's half a mile or so. Apologies go out to the aforementioned friend Pimp Daddy Rothschild who started a new job yesterday, as I completely forgot. Otherwise I would've texted / phoned / e mailed / shouted / carrier pigeoned to wish him luck. I hope a belated blog entry will make up for it in part!

The weekend was busy, but it was dull, mundane things making me busy. So I won't bother writing about them. Obviously I spent Mummy's Day with my Mum, although I did find time to pop in to see Mummy-to-be Chloe Bounce. There is still no sign of Baby Bounce who was expected on Saturday.

That's about it so I'm off to gather myself for the next onslaught...

I haven’t posted for while. It seems as if I’m always too busy. I’ll now have to drag my mind back to the beginning of the month when I last posted. Since then I’ve joined a gym and rather ironically hurt my knee so I can’t go to the gym. Even more ironically I didn’t hurt it whilst I was exercising, I think it was because I was sitting around on beanbags last weekend. Friend Jennifer Jackme came round for a gourmet vegetarian meal at mine and some serious video watching (no, I still haven’t embraced the DVD revolution) I had a day off work last week to take my Mum out for the day on her birthday. We were supposed to go into London, but ended up in St Albans learning about the Romans.

Last weekend I met up with my friends from school at friend Donna Cumming’s place in Guilford. For the first time since we went to Ibiza after our A levels we were all together for more than a couple of hours. Friend Mary Ellen Thong and I braved the M25 and drove down on Friday night as did friends Bonnie Sin, Debbie Dicks and Jacqui Buttocks. Friends Kinky Malibu and Bambi Venus joined us on Saturday. In order to get us queue jumping tickets at a local classy club Donna Cummings told the management that she had friends coming in from all over the world. So the most unlikely group of nationalities was formed. Respectively we were from Hawaii (me), France (Kinky Malibu), Greece (Mary Ellen Thong), Estonia (Jacqui Buttocks), Lichtenstein (Bonnie Sin), Spain (Donna Cummings) and Bolivia (Bambi Venus). It was lovely to catch up and as far as I am aware a good time was had by all!

I am still super busy at work. The top secret project is still ongoing and a decision is expected to be made next week. However, the Head of Commercial Finance came round yesterday and gave me a recognition letter for my contribution to the project. This is my second recognition in 3 months which isn’t bad going, but for that reason I will be keeping it quiet. The recognition means that you can go out for dinner and the company will reimburse you up to the value of £100. As I am on the big diet (current weight loss is now well over 2 stone) I didn’t want to go out for a slap up meal as I couldn’t enjoy it, so when we went out for my Mum’s birthday meal last week I used the receipt to claim my £100. I am going to use the money to buy a necklace from Tiffany’s but with the second recognition I think I can afford to buy some earrings too! Personally I think it’s nicer this way as I will have something I can keep.

On the more fun side of work, we opened the betting for when old manager Chloe Bounce’s baby will be born. I heard from her last night and there’s still no sign which is unfortunate as I need her to give birth to a 7.10 boy today otherwise I lose!

The last piece of news is that friend Hard John Rod has got engaged. I don’t know what the world is coming to when the friend you thought was more childish than you does something as grown up as this.

Raah! I have too much work to do and I got an e mail today asking when I am going to deliver the report I promised in December. Apparently it is very frustrating that I keep pushing back delivery and they would like me to commit to delivery in quarter 2. Well if I stop doing month end, don't submit a new forecast and cancel all of the project financial analysis I have to do then I may find a window to get the report done. I don't like letting people down, but I'm sure they think that I'm sitting over here doing nothing.

Last week was busy. I was supposed to see ex-manager and expectant mother Chloe Bounce on Wednesday night, but that got cancelled as I was stuck at work until nearly 9pm. That pretty much sums up the whole week. The weekend was quiet mainly because I didn't fancy going out in the cold. I ventured round to friend Kinky Malibu's on Saturday night as did friend Mary Ellen Thong where we ended up watching the 40 worst videos ever on VH1. Most of them were probably were OK when they were released. They are simply considered crap now because they look so dated. My favourite music video ever is Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim which will probably make it into one of these charts in 20 years time as it will look so dated - an actor dancing round a hotel lobby, how passe!

Not much else is doing - I'm off home for some dinner!
