The life of The Girl Shelby

I was in the gym over the weekend - last night I did 5km in 46:53. However, it's getting harder now. I think I can get down to 46 minutes, in the next week. I'm also doing the entire 5km on an incline which will hopefully help me when I get outside (the ground being much harder than a treadmill) However, I worked out what pace I would have to do to get own to 40 minutes and that is definitely a jogging pace. If I can I want to go every other day between now and 5 June so that may help.

I went out with friends Bonnie Sin and Kinky Malibu on Saturday night. We went to the very classy Red Lion in Stevenage as a couple of band we knew were playing. Kinky Malibu's brother is in a band called Hooverhead and we know the drummer in Vicious Cabaret. Bonnie Sin and I didn't get down there till late, so we missed Hooverhead but we did manage to catch most of the Vicious Cabaret set. It was extremely loud so Bonnie Sin and I retreated outside for the final song, partly for some fresh air and partly so we didn't get roped into the audience participation. I don't do public singing sober!

Last week was a nearly 60 hour week for me. The earliest I got out was 6pm on Friday. Thankfully I had the day off on Monday to recover. Things are still busy but the new analyst starts next week so I can start handing over some of my work.

It looks like I will be stating here for the immediate future. I still haven't had any formal feedback from any of the interviews I went to, but they are both looking unlikely to proceed. I've also put the search on hold for a few weeks as I am so busy at work that I really resent having to spend my spare time trying to impress other employers. It's a vicious circle. I want to get out of here, but am so busy that I don't have the energy to really put my heart into going to interviews. However, I have been put onto a really interesting project here and it is quite likely that I will go full time onto the project and my current role will be backfilled. If I can pull that off it will buy me a few months and hopefully give me the time to look properly for another job.

I have signed up for the Cancer Research Race for Life. This has got me back into the gym (I've now been twice in April which is 100% more than I went in March) I did 5km in 50 minutes on Monday. Last night I got down to 49 minutes. The race is in 6 weeks - I'd like if I can to get down to 40 minutes.

This will be short as work is busier than usual. I think I have already worked my 37.5 hours this week. However as we don't have flexitime I'm stuck here today and tomorrow. I think I'm going to get preganant. The key to being able to leave on time seems to be the children excuse, no matter how busy you are!

It's finished - I've finally decorated my flat. The kitchen is now an attractive shade of lime green which sounds really hideous, but works well with the cabinets. I like it but I doubt anyone else will. The whole flat will have to be painted magnolia again when it's time to sell. However, I don't anticipate going anywhere for a couple of years still.

The interview on Friday seemed pointless - it was the first interview again, except with a different person. It lasted 20 minutes - which was not worth the stress of sneaking out of work 2 hours early. Anyway, they are having a third round of interviews so we'll see if I get invited back then.

I am so busy at work that it isn't funny. Work is being thrown at me from all sides. On the plus side, my manager has recruited another analyst. However, she won't start until the end of April and it's going to take a few months before I can fully hand over my workload to her.

I have a second interview tonight at the famous department store. I'm still not very enthused about the role, but it's more experience. I have applied for a job which I am enthusiastic about, I'm waiting to hear if the major film studio wants to see me.

The decorating is progressing well - I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped, but I finished the hall and bathroom and all of the woodwork in the kitchen. This weekend I just have to emulsion the kitchen walls and then I'll be done. I'm never decorating the flat again - when it needs doing I'll move!
