The life of The Girl Shelby

I'm at work slugging back water and desperately trying to sober up. Yes it was the departmental Christmas lunch today complete with the first (and last) ever Functional Controlling Oscars. I didn't win although I was nomimated in the Best Quote category. For those of interested it was for this unfortunate office comment. Everyone who won an award had to make a speech and I was dying to get up and do either a Gwyneth Paltrow or a drunken floozy (as I managed to drink half a bottle of red wine by myself it probably would have been the latter) I lost to the Finance director so I never really stood a chance, especially as one of the departmental managers did a fantastic impression of him which made me laugh till I cried.

I'm now waiting to meet my sister as we are going to go shopping at The Galleria tonight until I am sober enough to drive home. She doesn't know quite how long her evening could be yet...

You'll be pleased to know that I went home after my last post and slept for a while which seemed to shift my headache. Since then I have been fit and healthy which is more than can be said for the rest of my family who have succumbed to the evil cold which is doing the rounds at the minute.

I'm still at work as I'm going out for my first Christmas season gathering in London with some work people. Friend Jamal Jupiter has some work to do before heading off so I'm killing time until then. Unfortunately I'm not feeling as happy as I was planning to as I found out earlier that I didn't get a second interview for the job I applied for. I'm quite disappointed as my feedback was I cam across well in the interview, it was just that they didn't think I was right for the job. I was then told that my experience was too limited which is a catch 22. How the hell am I supposed to get more experience if no one will give me a different job. I think would have rather have been told that I got all of the questions wrong as at least that would have given me something to work on for next time. So I'll pick myself up and start again...

Generally I'm looking forward to Christmas as I have lots of fun things planned for the run up including the departmental Christmas lunch next week and friend Bonnie Sin's birthday. However, maintaining weight loss during the festive season could be a bit of a challenge as could three visits to the gym a week. However, I have every Monday off between now and 9th January so I have no excuse for going at least once a week.

I saw friends Pimp Daddy Rothschild and Lydia Rothschild (nee Hott) a few weeks ago for the last time before they head down under. The lure of the land of kangaroo and koalas seemed to be very strong as I know someone else who emigrated this year and another person who will go next summer. As I said to friend Deedee Lustley to cheer myself up on the way home - I'm not so much losing friends as gaining a place to go on holiday!
