The life of The Girl Shelby

I have a splitting headache so am blogging at work as a diversionary tactic. I'm hoping the headache will go away if I don't think about work for a while.

The last few weeks have been pretty horrendous. The latest round of Finance restructuring has been announced. This has resulted in the departure of my head of department, half the department being moved elsewhere in Finance and a number of people being made redundant. Yet again I fall into the none of the above category, although personally it would've been better for me to have been made redundant. As things stand I have no chance of getting a new job at the minute as priority will be given to those without a role (which is quite right too) I'm still waiting to hear the outcome of the interview a couple of weeks ago, which I think went OK. Bizarrely I had to have two first interview s as one of the guys who was supposed to interview me was stuck in traffic. So I wasn't at a disadvantage I had to see him at a later time. I think it went OK, but I think I could have answered some of the questions from the second interview better in the first interview as I was more psyched up for that one. I'll be disappointed if I don't get called back as I think I acquitted myself well. I didn't fail the interview outright so it depends on how well I did compared to other candidates.

Well my head still hurts so I'm abandoning this here to go home to bed. To be continued at a later date...

Oh dear. My blogging has gone to pot over the summer. It does like a monthly entry is the best that you can hope for at the minute.

Well what’s new I hear you cry (in the manner of my old Economics teacher as well) The answer is not much really. My sister and her boyfriend have brought a house in Hitchin which I went to see on Monday. It’s really nice, but they want to redecorate it before they move in. They reckon they’ll be in by Christmas although they haven’t specified which year… I remember that naïve optimism when I brought my place. I wasn’t moving in till I’d decorated everything. I finally moved in nearly 3 months after I’d got the keys after decorating the bedroom, bathroom and lounge. I got the spare room done about 6 months later and it took till Easter this year to get the hall and kitchen done.

Work is as much fun as ever. Things have taken a sorry turn downhill as we found out the details of the Christmas party yesterday. Gone are the days of parties in places like Alexandra Palace, Wembly Conference Centre and the New Connaught Rooms. Gone are the days of headline entertainment by Liberty X, Big Brovaz and 3SL (OK they might all be crap, but at least they were a little bit famous) Gone are the days of a couple of free drinks or even free drinks all night like last years effort. Yes, I’m proud to announce that this years Christmas party will be in Hatfield. At work. In the underground car park. The UNDERGROUND CAR PARK! Cost cutting has hit new levels of pointlessness. Yes from 6.30-10.30 on 20 December I will be able to celebrate the festive season with my colleagues in a cold, damp car park. There is so much wrong with this – as well as the location, the times are suitable for a maiden Aunt or a 6 year old. Where is my excuse to come in late the following day? It’ll be interesting to see how many people turn out for this one. It’s quite a cunning plan starting at 6.30 – for anyone who wants to go, there is little point in going home first so we’ll all end putting in an extra hour of work before going to the ‘party’. It’ll be interesting to see how many people go – despite my moaning, you know I’ll probably be there although it’ll be out of curiosity more than anything else!

I have an interview here tomorrow for a new job. It will be working for two of my old managers and a friend. However, it seems to be the growth area of the business so could be good to get in there. There is also another role I’m interested in in Customer Services. I’m going to see how I do tomorrow before I apply for that one. It seems pointless me sitting round in Finance waiting to get an opportunity to move on. It hasn’t happened all year and although there’s another restructure coming I can’t count on getting anything out of that. If I don’t get a new role here by the end of the year I’m going to start looking externally again.

Outside of work I’ve put myself on a diet again and dragged my sorry arse back to the gym. I can’t believe how fit I was before as I’m not even trying to do anywhere as much as I was before and I’m still struggling. However, friend Jennifer Jackme is back at the same gym and friend Bonnie Sin has a week’s pass to use so between them they will get me in there on a regular basis. The diet has been going well, although I had a bit of a blow out last weekend. Friends Bonnie Sin, Mary Ellen Thong and Debbie Dicks came over for a Halloween evening complete with pumpkin carving and cocktails. Thank goodness the clocks went back an hour as I didn’t get to bed until 3.30am. I’ve felt exhausted all week since – it may be time I realised that I can’t do riotous living anymore…

I can’t think of anything else, although I’m sure there have been other things that happened. However, as I’m only half awake this morning this is all you are going to get.
