The life of The Girl Shelby

The weekend was good. I went to the gym on Friday night as I was too lazy to go on Thursday. It was really quiet are therefore much nicer than other nights in the week. On Saturday I decided to overhaul my wardrobe and get some new clothes that actually fit me. So I went shopping with a list of things to replace. £100 later and I had pretty much everything on the list. Thanks to my Mum's sewing skills lots of my clothes can be altered with saves me a fortune. I'm also hoping by getting rid of my fat clothes (or making them smaller) it will be an incentive to keep the weight off.

Yesterday was a super busy day. At 8.15am I was in the gym testing myself to see how far I could run. The answer - 2km in 15 minutes although I'm paying for it today! I was pretty impressed as I usually do brisk uphill walking in the gym so I had no idea if I would be able to run for a prolonged period of time. After a quick shower I headed over to Dunstable to see friend from work Pussy Might. She and I went out for lunch before heading to Dunstable Downs to walk it all off. I hadn't been to the Downs since I was little so it was nice to go back there. From Dunstable I headed back to Stevenage to meet friends Bonnie Sin, Kinky Malibu, Mary Ellen Thong and some of Mary Ellen Thong's college friends at the cinema to see Wimbledon. I really liked the film and was surprised as the emphasis was on the sport rather than the love story. After the film ended I headed to my parents to see my Aunt who was down for the day. I finally got back home at about 9pm and fell straight into bed exhausted!

A good start to the day - I have to write an e mail to the managing director explaining why Customer Services costs are bang on target. The reason - dodgy accounting by yours truely which was endorsed by the previous Finance Director.

An exciting weekend as friend Bonnie Sin and I booked up to go to New York on 11 November. We already have a huge list of things we want to do there so I may come back more in need of a holiday than I went. We are going for a week so that should give us enough time to do everything we want and maybe a bit more!

Friend Tiffani Holiday's wedding is now just over 2 weeks away. I was fitted for my dress 2 weeks ago, but am absolutely paranoid about my weight. I managed to put on weight last week and as this week hasn't been good either I fully expect that more weight will go on. I'll have to be careful about what I eat for the next couple of weeks to get back on track. My total weight loss since January 1 is 4 stone or so (the or so is the weight that's gone back on in the last couple of weeks!) I missed my target by a mile, but 7 stone was always going to be too ambitious.

It's been a long summer, but it looks like I can access blogger from my desk again! Lots has happened whilst I've been away. There's been some good stuff - seeing Madonna in concert, friend Angel Velvet's wedding, the Red Bull Soap Box race, a 3 day break to Champney's Springs, a trip to Whipsnade Zoo and generally seeing friends.

There's also been some not so good stuff - mainly work related. To cut a very long story short I have been restructured. Unfortunately I no now longer report to the Head of Customer Services, Marketing and Retentions Finance. Mainly because he has been moved into Sales. I don't even report to his equivilent The Head of CSSO Finance. I've been dropped back down the hierarchy a couple of levels, although I have been told unofficially that my new manager will report directly into the Head of CSSO Finance. That does put me back at the same level I was at before old manager Chloe Bounce left to go on maternity leave. I will be getting a permanent employee to manage and mould to my liking, but all this has made me realise that it's time to move on. I have told the Head of CSSO Finance that I will give him 6 months to manage me out of my current role. The deal we have is that he will then help me get a new job by letting people know I am looking for a move and recommending me for positions.

On the plus side it's Friday - yay!

Below is an update which I had saved ready to post at some point. It fills in some of the blanks of the summer.

Thurs 24 June – Skived off work with a migraine. Work was quiet and I figured they owed me some time for all the hours I put in before I went on holiday.
Fri 25 June - Returned to work to find that in one day all hell had broken loose and my workload had trebled overnight. I thought about coming in over the weekend but I didn’t get any further than thinking
Sat 26 June – Went to the Olympic Torch concert in the mall with friend from work Pussy Might. We managed to get a good view of the stage, but we were on the wrong side of the Mall for seeing the torch come through.
Tues 29 June – No power in my building all day at work. I couldn’t find a PC elsewhere so ended up going home at 2.20pm after achieving nothing all day which didn’t help my workload
Weds 30 June – Went to see Lars the Swedish dentist who told me one of my wisdom teeth will have to come out. I’ve only got 2 wisdom teeth. Does removing one of them deplete my wisdom by a half?
Thurs 1 July and Fri 2 July – Worked ridiculous hours in order to complete the commercials for the next project meeting. I made up all hours lost on Tuesday and more.
Sat 3 July – Had to come into work to get on top of my workload
Sun 4 July – Got a migraine which was obviously payback for skiving off work wit a migraine the previous week!
Tues 6 July – Had to cancel my attendance at my teambuild due to workload
Thurs 8 July – My contractor finally arrived back at work from his holiday and was put to work immediately. Things are slightly calmer now he’s back, but he doesn’t know what has hit him as he’s never had to work this hard in the entire time he’s been here.
Fri 9 July – Friend Jennifer Jackme came round for dinner before we went to the cinema to see Shrek 2 which is excellent.
Sat 10 July – Went up to London to see friend Cassie Canyon before she heads back to Australia for good. Friend Buck Vegas was also down from deepest darkest Telford who I hadn’t seen since he left work last November. I was drinking whilst we were out and we finished much earlier than I was expecting. So I ended up back in Stevenage in a position where it was probably not a good idea to drive my car. So I went into the cinema and asked for a ticket for whatever film was starting next. This turned out to be Mean Girls which was reasonably diverting for a couple of hours. Thankfully, I’d sobered up by the time I came out so I could drive home.
Sun 11 July – Saw friend Bonnie Sin and we watched Funny Face. Unfortunately despite it being Audrey Hepburn I couldn’t get into it. I think it was the lack of chemistry between her and Fred Astaire.
Weds 14 July – Went out to dinner with friends Bonnie Sin, Kinky Malibu and Mary Ellen Thong. Heard lots about Mary Ellen Thong’s new class of 6 year olds who she will teaching from September.
Thurs 15 July – Went to the Commercial Finance team meeting. Discovered that Commercial Finance will no longer exist and that I will be a part of CSSO Finance but I still don’t know who I will be working for. Rumour has it that my current manager will be heading up this area but it is a close call between him and the guy who currently heads up Sales Finance.
Sat 17 July – Went to Cambridge for the day with friends Bonnie Sin and Mary Ellen Thong. We spent the day in a park by the river people watching.
Sun 18 July – Went to Whipsnade Zoo with colleagues and friends Pussy Might, Busty Lustley, Busty Lustley’s sister, nephew and cousin. A fun day but exhausting.
