The life of The Girl Shelby

It’s about time that I posted about friend Mary Ellen Thong’s wedding last weekend. What can I say? She looked lovely, the service was lovely, the food was lovely and the weather was hideous. However, this didn’t dampen spirits and luckily there was a short break in the rain to allow for some pictures to be taken outside after the ceremony.

In time honoured tradition I got drunk at the reception, however, this time I did manage to restrain myself from telling anyone I loved them. My drunkeness was mainly restricted to the dancefloor where I gave it my all and danced to everything. My body was aching on Sunday probably from too much shaking it like a Polaroid picture (the DJ and the band both played Hey Ya) I also had a couple of drunken conversations with friends Debbie Dicks and Sandy Slides who were as drunk as I was which must have made for an entertaining spectator sport for the people around us! It all ended much too soon, but that was probably a good thing as I didn’t get totally hammered. As it was when I got home I spent an hour or so texting people trying to combat the ferocious room spin going on around me. Again, thankfully I wasn’t so drunk that I started texting random people in my phone book - specifically people from work. I didn’t have Inappropriate Crush’s number in my phone otherwise I may have been tempted which could have left me with a lot of explaining to do on Monday.

This week has been fairly quiet. Today is my last day on my own as my manager and colleague are back from their respective holidays on Monday! They will be in for a shock as I haven’t done any of their work whilst they’ve been away. It’s been hard enough coping with my own! Loads of people are on holiday and the rest of my project team have been offsite most of the week. However, this has meant that my stress levels have been stratospheric as I’ve been trying to get information and no one wants to return my calls. At least when they do that in the office I can go and camp out at their desks till I get what I want. It’s harder (but not impossible) to do that when they are scattered round the country.

The weekend should be quiet – I may see friends Bonnie Sin and Kinky Malibu. However, as next weekend is going to be busy as friend Hard John Rod gets married it wouldn’t hurt to have a quiet one and try and catch up with myself a bit.

You'd really think I would learn

Bloke who sits opposite me: If you get me a Dr Pepper you'd make me really happy
Me: I've already made you really happy once this year, it's not happening again.
Everyone else then turns round and asks what exactly what has been going on between us

No wonder my reputation is in ruins...

NB For those of you with enquiring minds I got him a Dr Pepper once before, which is why I referred to making him happy.

This reminds me of an incident I came across when I worked in the Commissions department when a customer called Mrs Dick had her christian name changed on the system to Sucka. Needless to say, she was very upset when her bill arrived...

I lost a bet with my Dad on Monday which had been in place for at least 10 years. I bet him that I would get a BMW before he did. On Monday Dad took possession of his new Beamer, although in my defense I got quite close to winning as I nearly got a BMW when I passed my exams. As a dutiful daughter I chose to let my Dad win on this one. It certainly means more to him as the evidence so far indicates that he's going to love the car more than me, my Mum or my sister!

I was out last night for our last supper with friend Mary Ellen Thong. She gets married on Saturday and friends Bonnie Sin, Kinky Malibu and I know that once she is married she will be sucked in the world of couples dinner parties and won't be able to associated with the legally unattached! As Bonnie Sin has been in China for the last month she missed the hen weekend so it was an unofficial hen dinner. I have now seen many of my friends get married, but Saturday will be special as I have known Mary Ellen Thong since we were little and as she is the first of my school friends to get married.

Friday night Kinky Malibu and I went to the cinema to see Wedding Crashers in preparation for Mary Ellen Thong's upcoming nuptials. If you are tempted to do the same then don't. I went expecting to see a boy's comedy and was not impressed when it turned into boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girls back love story. Don't get me wrong, parts of it are funny but it wasn't what I signed up for.

I have to go and do some work now. I have to spend the next two days cooped up in a meeting room engaged in contract negociations. The Procurement guys keep telling me that this is where the fun starts, but I think there definition of fun is radically different from mine...
