The life of The Girl Shelby

It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Work has improved slightly but is still keeping me busy. The forecast went in on Friday so I’m just waiting now to find out if it’s going to be approved. Chances are that it is not and I’m going to have to cut it further, but I’ll worry about that when it actually happens. The Head of Customer Services, Marketing and Commissions Finance has also been on holiday so I’ve had to deal with everything myself. Thankfully he came back to work on Wednesday so I’ve been pushing all the crap I don’t want back onto him.

Since I last posted…

Friends Kinky Malibu, Bonnie Sin and I went to see friend Mary Ellen Thong to celebrate her birthday. Armed with cake and presents we spent a quiet evening in front of the TV where we managed to spot a girl we were at school with in The Bill, watched Footballers Wives in disbelief and finished off the evening trying to persuade Mary Ellen Thong that she should still get married next year after watching Weddings from Hell 2004. It was an educational evening if nothing else as Kinky Malibu’s present was The Action Heroine’s Handbook so we learnt how to turn a man into a sex pawn, how to run in high heels and a bustier and how to drink someone under the table.

I spent most of Good Friday sitting in the garden at my parents watching them massacre anything green. In the evening, friend Bonnie Sin and I met up with Debbie Dicks who was back in town for Easter. We had a few quiet drinks in the old town which reminded me why I don’t go out in Stevenage on a Friday night. The pub was absolutely rammed although it became tolerable after 10 when everyone else left to go to the Leisure Park. I’ve just re-read that and realised that I sound really old, but I don’t care. What the point in going out if it takes you forever to get to the bar?

The following morning I was with friend Bonnie Sin again as we were shopping for accessories for a wedding outfit in John Lewis’s. I saw loads of things I liked but managed not to buy anything. Later that day I popped into Stevenage town centre in order to try and get a new phone battery for my house phone. That was when I went home with a new swimsuit, sarong, flip flops and a skirt, but no battery. The rest of the weekend I spent skulking around doing very little. I didn’t get any Easter eggs, so to console myself I had my first piece of chocolate since new years eve – a solitary mini egg. I was rather hoping that after not having eaten it for so long that I wouldn’t like chocolate any more. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case so I guess I will have to continue avoiding chocolate in the foreseeable future.

Easter Monday I was at friend Boopsie Venus’s house to see her and her newly acquired manx cat. Personally I think she should sue the pet shop under the Trades Descriptions Act as her manx cat has a tail. Anyway, it turned into a rather unexpectedly traditional Easter Monday with a roast dinner and games. She cooked roast beef for us (which I was impressed by as I wouldn’t have a clue where to start with something like that) and we then ended up playing games. She has Uno Extreme which I recommend if only for the fact that it has a little machine that might throw cards at you when you press the button.

I have continued to go regularly to the gym. I am finding it’s quite good for clearing my head after work and I think generally I feel better for doing it. I always said that I would give myself until 1 June to decide whether I liked it or not. At the moment, the only thing that may lead me to terminate my membership is if it gets too busy at the times when I want to go. Whenever, I am there they are always showing new people around and signing up new members. I’ve always pretty much been able to do what I want to do when I want to, but I don’t want to have to hang around waiting for equipment to become free.

Last weekend I went to visit bride to be Tiffani Holiday, her fiancé Big Al LeVeaux and their dog who is officially my new best friend. In fact I was such a hit that Big Al LeVeaux was trying to persuade me that I would like to look after the dog while they are on their honeymoon. Needless to say I politely declined as I have no wish to spend a fortnight in Hull with their dog whilst they are sunning themselves in Maurius. It was a good weekend as it gave me a chance to get to know Big Al LeVeaux as well as catching up with Tiffani Holiday. I went to see where the wedding is happening and a final decision has been made on the dress. Now I just have to go and order it! Tiffani Holiday and I went shopping for wedding accessories. I honestly tried to find some suitable wedding jewellery in high street shops but I can’t find anything I like. I’ll just have to get the expensive jewellery from Tiffany & Co. It may not work out as expensive as I fear as colleagues Pussy Paradise and Huge Head are both going to America where due to favourable exchange rates the jewellery I want works out much cheaper. I just have to persuade them that they wouldn’t mind getting it for me!

This weekend I am going to see ex-manager Chloe Bounce and Baby Bounce. As I feel in need of a rest I don’t plan on doing much else, although I may make an exception for friend Bonnie Sin as she is going to Chile next week. It’s nearly time to go home so I’d better post this and start packing up.

An e mail from friend Pimp Daddy Rothschild reminded me that it was about time to update my blog. A number of things have happened over the last couple of weeks that merit a mention.

My personal favourite, and I make no apology to any of my friends for being superseded by this event, is that Baby Bounce finally decided to arrive last Wednesday. 11 days late he weighed in at an impressive 8.11lb. Proud father Slick Bounce called Wednesday night to give me the happy news and it was then mandatory to spend the evening gossiping on the phone about it with my work colleagues. The next morning I was in Starbucks and I saw colleague Juan Sex in the queue a couple of people in front of me. I was telling him the news, including some for the gorier details of the birth (he asked) and the guy between us in the queue turned round and told me it was too early in the morning for that kind of detail! Apparently there is a time and a place for that kind of thing…

Last weekend I went down to London to see friend Deedee Lustley and to see the transformation that has taken place in her flat since I was last there. It looks lovely and has given me fresh impetus to get my arse in gear and actually finish getting my place decorated. As it was a dull Saturday afternoon outside, we stayed in and caught up on each others news. We then had an afternoon matinee as we watched Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. There are much worse ways to spend an afternoon as I had a fantastic time.

Since my last update I have been going to the gym fairly consistently and my reward came in the form of renewed weight loss last week. It was also the 3 month point of the diet and so far I have lost 34lb. To put that into context it is about a third of what I eventually hope to lose. I went to look at the bridesmaid dress again recently and it needs to be ordered by mid-May in order for it to arrive in time. The good news is that the people in the shop though that I could carry on losing weight over the summer as the dress would be easy to make smaller as it is a very simple style.

Work is hideous and the less said about it the better. On the plus side, my bete noir in Customer Services is leaving on Thursday. She will be working for the international organisation, but at least I will not have to deal with her on a day to day basis which will be like pulling a massive thorn out of my side.

Unless something especially dramatic happens I don’t foresee a posting until after Easter once I’ve had a break to recharge my batteries!
